Benefit for Training for Advance Rescue

Sotto Sopra’s Guest Chef Fundraiser
benefiting
International Exchange of Training for Advance Rescue and Life Support

A special evening of Italian food and libations at Sotto Sopra Restaurant on Thursday, September 28th located at 405 N. Charles Street in Baltimore will benefit training for Advanced Rescue and Life Support for Emergency Medical Responders.  Doctor Doug Floccare, a 32 year veteran emergency physician and a medical director for flight paramedics for 27 years will be the restaurant’s guest chef for the evening. Sotto Sopra’s award-winning Northern Italian cuisine with a Maryland accent and special wine flights are the centerpiece for the evening’s gathering with open reservations available by phone 410-625-0534 or https://www.opentable.com/r/sotto-sopra-baltimore

One must consider the ever changing landscape of rescue and medical care. Pockets of unique expertise in rescue and emergency medical care have developed across the world.  From the wilderness of Canada to the mountains of Italy and  to the outback and the coasts of Australia, emergency response personnel have often developed methods of preparing for unique local challenges that are not necessarily widely disseminated, but that can help responders in other locations train for high-risk, low-frequency events.

Medical Director of Flight Paramedics, Dr. Doug Floccare informs, “Maryland is diverse in nature, from ocean coastline and waterways to farmlands and mountains, and from sparsely populated areas to the sprawling suburbs and densely populated cities.  Emergency medical response in Maryland poses a wide variety of challenges, yet we have a long history of innovative approaches to trauma care.  Maryland has much it can learn from the expertise that has been developed in other areas of the world, and also much it can share from approaches that have been refined here.  This fund will be utilized to support the international exchange of training personnel and training techniques for advanced rescue and life support.”  Dr. Floccare has had the opportunity to travel extensively and to observe unique approaches to emergency response in other areas of the world.

Sotto Sopra Restaurant is pleased to partner with Dr. Floccare, as their guest chef, and will be donating 15% of the evening’s proceeds to Advanced Rescue and Life Support for Emergency Medical Responder training.

Dr. Doug Floccare’s love of good food has prompted his enjoyment of cooking from a young age.  As a “weekend cook,” he enjoys exploring the world through its foods and wines using a wide range of cooking methods.  As the grandson of four immigrants from Italy, he often returns to the culinary root, he loved so much while growing up.  So whether it’s a whole prime rib on the smoker, a stir-fry of homegrown vegetables, or a Sunday simmer of tomato sauce and meatballs, he takes greatest pleasure in the fellowship of a delicious meal shared with family or friends.

They have performed in many locations, including New York City, Seattle, Philadelphia, Annapolis, and of course, Baltimore. The Baltimore Men’s Chorus welcomes all male singers – regardless of gender identity or sexual orientation.

Broadway Night at Sotto Sopra performers:

N. Brad Bradley
Nathan "Brad"  Bradley has been a shower singer since birth, but he brought his singing talents to the stage in the late ‘80s when he first joined the Baltimore Men’s Chorus. Since then he has sung with Voices Of Kentuckiana and the Indianapolis Men's Chorus (when he lived in those areas) before returning to the BMC in 2002. A former BMC president, he is currently on its board as treasurer and sings bass (but has also sung tenor at times).

Stephen McMahon
Steve started playing "air piano" at the early age of four and his parents soon had him taking lessons, tickling the ivories on a real piano. With time, he furthered his studies with teachers at Peabody.  Steve's lifelong love of music includes singing too; he has sung chorally with the Baltimore Symphony Chorus, the Gay Men’s Chorus of Washington, DC, and Potomac Fever before joining the BMC as a baritone/low tenor.  Friends and family often gather around the piano at Steve's home for fun evenings of 'live' Broadway karaoke.

Cole Reilly, Ph.D.
Cole’s big family couldn’t be more unlike the Von Trapp Family singers; to this day, his un-musical siblings and Irish (not Austrian) kin insist he leads every family rendition of “Happy Birthday” … even on his own birthday. He minored in music and was in 50 plays and musicals  since 10th grade.  After not performing for about 7 years (instead focusing on his doctoral work and getting tenure at TU), Dr. Reilly began singing tenor (and sometimes bass) for the BMC in 2011 and is the group's current president.

Chef For The Day is back!

CHEF-FOR-THE-DAY

What's it like to work in a restaurant kitchen? That question can be answered with Sotto Sopra Restaurant's Chef-for-the-Day Program under the tutelage of Executive Chef Riccardo Bosio.

If Executive Chef Riccardo Bosio of Sotto Sopra has been asked once, he has been asked a hundred times about life in a restaurant kitchen by clientele, many of whom are talented home cooks. Proof of this fascination can be found in the success of television's reality kitchen programming: Top Chef, Hell's Kitchen and The Food Network’s Chopped.

Chef Bosio has brought back his own chef reality program at Sotto Sopra Restaurant with Chef-for-the-Day allowing a patron to come work in the restaurant kitchen for a full day. Chef-for-the-Day starts early, is expected to be on their feet all day, maneuver narrow stairwells, work through evening service and will wrap their day in the kitchen with dinner

Prior to coming into Sotto Sopra's kitchen, Chef Bosio assesses the Chef-for-the-Day's skill level and also offers up an additional challenge of creating a menu promoting them as the Chef-for-the-Day at the restaurant.

Previous Chefs-for-the-Day have invited friends and family in that evening to partake of the multi-course pre-fix menu that they have prepared.  Sotto Sopra help promote you as Chef-for-the-Day on the blog and in their e-newsletter. Cost for this once in a lifetime experience is $100 – available for direct purchase or as a gift certificate for Chef-for-the-Day.
